Self-Rescue Techniques -C402-

Syllabus

What options do you have when things don't go according to plan on the rock? What if you lose your ATC device? Or your climbing partner is stuck on a particular pitch?

We intend to provide a toolbox of techniques and protocols to overcome these and other bumps that could happen while climbing. Truly a course every climber should take. 


 Skills reviewed during this course:  

  • Rappelling without an ATC device 
  • Friction hitches, Munter hitch 
  • Mechanical advantage systems (3:1, 5:1, 6:1) 
  • Escaping the belay 
  • Advanced rappel systems with an injured climber 
  • Ascending a fixed line

Smith Rock State Park

 Located in Central Oregon (30 min from Bend and 2.5 hrs from Portland), Smith Rock is known worldwide as the birthplace of sport climbing. 

Horsethief Butte

 Located in the Columbia River George (Washington side), Tamani Pesh-Wa (or written on the rock) is a Canyon full of history. A great place for teaching and a beautiful setting (20 min from Hood River and 1.5 hrs from Portland).
