Trad Climbing -C301-

Syllabus

This clinic opens the door to alpine, adventure, and crack climbing. We focus on providing skills, mentoring, and plenty of practice time to understand the nuances of this craft. 


 Skills reviewed during this course:  

  • Gear care and placement
  • Rock quality considerations
  • Racking up for a trad climb 
  • Trad climbing vs sport climbing mindset 
  • Leader safety considerations
  • Physical and mental aspects of trad climbing
  • Basic crack climbing technique 
  • Trad anchor systems

Notes: 

  • We recommend taking this clinic after our anchors and rappelling program or taking both clinics as part of a weekend package.

Length: 1 day & 2 days format

Tuition:

Smith Rock State Park

 Located in Central Oregon (30 min from Bend and 2.5 hrs from Portland), Smith Rock is known worldwide as the birthplace of sport climbing. 

Horsethief Butte

 Located in the Columbia River George (Washington side), Tamani Pesh-Wa (or written on the rock) is a Canyon full of history. A great place for teaching and a beautiful setting (20 min from Hood River and 1.5 hrs from Portland).
