2024 BIPOC Climbing Retreat at Smith Rock (June 29th-30th)

 We are happy to be hosting this year a BIPOC Affinity retreat at Smith Rock in collaboration with our friends from Corvallis Climbers of Color and with the sponsorship of Arc’teryx Portland. During the weekend we will camp, climb together and build community. 


All Clinics will be guided by AMGA certified instructors.

2024 BIPOC Retreat -Rock Climbing Clinics

Intro to Rock Climbing

This clinic is intended to provide students with the foundational skills of outdoor rock climbing. Modules include theory and practice sessions to allow safe, sufficient and varied practice.

  • Tuition: $100
  • Climbing Gear will be provided
  • Scholarships available (Read below)
  • Prerequisites: Student must be able to hike ~2miles over uneven terrain

Sport Leadership Clinic

This course focuses on the technical skills needed to lead routes and protect your partners in an outdoor rock climbing environment. During this clinic, students will be able to mock-lead climbs, practice clipping and rope management and learn how to build anchors and rappel. 

  • Tuition: $180
  • Climbing Gear will be provided
  • Scholarships available (Read below)
  • Prerequisites: Student must be able to climb 5.8 on Top Rope, Student must be able to hike ~2miles over uneven terrain

Advanced Climbing Movement

During these two days you will have the opportunity to climb moderate routes at smith rock (5.9 to 5.10D).  Day one will focus on sport climbing and face climbing techniques. Day two will focus on crack climbing.  Routes will be technical and challenging.

  • Prerequisites: Students must be able to climb 5.9 on Top Rope, Student must be able to hike ~2miles over uneven terrain

Read our cancellation policy before signing up 

Meeting time and date

Plan to be at the Park around 7AM on Saturday the 29th to meet your instructor.  Campsites will be available the night before for students that want to drive ahead of the clinic (recommended). More details will be provided after sign up. 

Online meeting with participants

We will have an online meeting with participants and instructors in June 13th to answer questions and talk about logistics 

Camping Gear and Meals

  • We will camp together. Info about camping will be shared with students after sign up.
  • We will provide camping gear if required.  You will be able to request it during sign up
  • Plan for meals. We will have a group meal the night of the 29th. 
  • More information will be shared with students after sign up

Transportation

  •   Transportation is not guaranteed by our organization. Although we encourage carpooling and will connect with all the students to plan the logistics after sign up.
